I am a PhD student under the supervision of Prof Ray Sharples at Durham University. I am studying the fast ions generated by neutral beam injection and radio frequency (RF) wave heating in fusion tokamaks. The intense population of energetic particles can provide the driving mechanism for anomalous transport phenomena, and the fast ions are often a major source of energy, momentum and particles for the plasma. My project will involve the modelling and interpretation of data from a FIDA diagnostic installed on the Mega-Amp Spherical Tokamak Upgrade (MAST-U) at CCFE.
