From 29 February to 1 April 2016 Leo Doehl participated in an experiment at Vulcan Target Area West at Rutherford Appleton Laboratory. Leo (at the back of the photo below) is a first year Fusion CDT based at York Plasma Institute. The work was led by Oxford University with collaborators from Munich,York, Ecole Polytechnique and Osaka. The research focused on generating turbulence through colliding jets of plasma and the effects of turbulence on amplifying a magnetic field. The experiment is configured to replicate how magnetic fields can be amplified in an astrophysical setting.
